- Rinderpest is a disease that has been wiping out cattle for millenia.
- The World Organization for Animal Health is close to wiping out the disease entirely.
- Only 17 countries out of 175 are still reporting active rinderpest.
- Somalia has the most of the disease.
- Some are scared that once rinderpest is gone some will store the vaccination and attempt to use it as a bioweapon.
Reflection:
I think this is monumentous for humanity it could save trillions of lives. I hope it doesn't come back though. It could ruin the US. We depend so much on beef and if our supply was wiped out we would be in serious trouble. I would like to know how rinderpest works. The Article didn't mention it so much. If biologists mutated it to go to humans that would be most likely an epidemic. I hear that Smallpox is being developed as a biological weapon and it's scary. We have the ability to change so much in the world, and I hope scientists do the right thing.
